Bridal Prep 101.
Congratulations beautiful! You are officially engaged and now in the middle of planning your big day! I know, there is so so much to plan, it can become so overwhelming. But my hope is that the one part of wedding planning that isn’t as excruciatingly stressful, is your makeup! I am here to help you feel excited and want to give you my best tips for prepping for your application!
I always recommend booking a makeup trial, even if you consider yourself the most natural makeup/non-makeup girly. Why? Trials not only allow you to make sure you are receiving the makeup application/look you are wanting, but it also allows myself, the artist to meet you! I’ll have a chance to ask you all of the questions to better learn what you love/hate, and what your wanting/not wanting. We all have different ideas of what we like, and being able to perfect that via a trial is such a good idea.
How to best prepare for your trial is by doing the following:
Save your favourite inspiration pics from Pinterest, or Instagram, of makeup looks you are loving. Anything that can help me see what you mean by “natural”, or “glam”, or “smokey eyes”, for example.
Make sure to have a cleansed, makeup free (especially left over mascara from in between those lashes) face, and don’t forget to moisturize the heck out of your face. If you think you moisturized enough, do me a favour, throw an extra layer on top! Your skin will drink it up, and honestly, the makeup will look that much better. Makeup really is all about how good our skin looks underneath.
Skin Prep: Of course skin is literally, skin deep. So taking care of your health internally and emotionally/mentally is of utmost importance. Taking care of our insides will help us glow on the outside. So with that already covered, lets chat skin care prep! Having a skin care regime catered to your needs is absolutley necessary. This doesn’t always mean high cost products, but it does mean perhaps visiting a dermatologist to make sure your needs are met. Personally, oil cleansing radically changed my skin (as someone who suffers with eczema and perineal dermatitis), and Retinol application. Find what works for you, months before the wedding day. Facials can be an added beauty perk to plump your skin up. Also, many women enjoy derma planing, which is the gentle shaving of facial hair. It can make makeup application smoother for sure; but if you do want to try this, I recommend you try this at least a few months before your wedding day to see how your skin reacts. Lastly, if you do nothing else, do this: Drink lemon water daily when you start your day. Lemon water has a billion benefits, and I have seen with my own eyes the incredible difference it has made for me, and then women who have sat in my makeup chair. Do it girl. Trust me.
Now, with all that in mind, prepping for your wedding day makeup application, morning of, isn’t much different. All I need from you, is a hydrated and moisturized queen. Oh, and rested too if you can! But concealer’s got you covered, literally, if you couldn’t sleep with the excitement!
There you go, my beautiful friend! You are all set for your trial, and wedding day makeup! Now sit back, enjoy a glass of whatever the heck you want, and breathe. You are a beautiful, strong, confident, and loving QUEEN.
Love,
Nicol.
