I’ve been doing wedding makeup for over 8 years now, which means hundreds upon hundreds of weddings. And something I never quite see enough of, is love for the bridesmaids. The women who truly, in more ways than one, have a bride’s back in every single aspect.

A supportive and loving bridesmaids squad is priceless. Friends who really know you.

Here are a few tips/suggestions I’ve experienced as a bridesmaid, and a bride; and what I’ve witnessed working all these weddings over the years.

1) On the morning of her wedding day, don’t overwhelm her with a thousand questions. Whatever comes at you, try your best to decipher with the help of the MOH, Wedding Planner, or whoever else may be helping. I’ve seen so so many times, a poor Bride being thrown questions left and right when all she wants to do is just breathe, eat, hydrate and enjoy the process. It’s her big day and flooding her with stress is a big NO.

2) When she reveals herself, either with her hair or makeup done, and then her dress, HYPE YOUR GIRL UP. I have witnessed countless brides finish her makeup or hair, and then her dress to only have a quiet bridesmaid group react. There is truly nothing worse. Making your friend feel radiant and beautiful on her wedding day shouldn’t feel like an “assignment” or “job” to you. If you are a true friend, don’t hold back, let her know how beautiful she is, and build her confidence up!

3) Ask the bride beforehand, what kind of hair or makeup she would like for you. Some brides are super easy going and truly don’t care, while others have a true vision. Asking her beforehand, especially for some inspiration pictures will eliminate the need to ask her on the morning of the wedding day. And remember, this is her day. If she envisions up-do’s, while you prefer your hair down, just get the up-do. When it isn’t the biggest deal, don’t make it a big deal.

Overall, just being a supportive, helpful, and giving friend will make you the best bridesmaid a girl could ask for!
